Monday Morning Update 5.17.09

Today was a special day. Some good friends from Pottsboro came down to check us out, and a family from my class also came. I love new faces, and I love reconnecting with old friends. However I missed some other crossroadies who were unable to be with us.

I was absolutely exhausted from my late evening (See One Enchanted Evening blog). It was after 1 before I got to sleep last night, and then I had to wake up at 6. I hit snooze twice before I drug my tired self out of bed.

Once I was on my feet, I became more excited about the day. It's cool that Sunday is my favorite day of the week. It is not routine or boring or frustrating. It's the day that I look forward to all week.

Shawn is still doing his God on your IPod series. This week he did "Believe" by Stained. Love this song. It has such awesome lyrics about wanting somebody to believe in you and when you are weak being strong... It was an easy leap to see how God can fulfill these roles in our life. For complete details go to www.welcometothecrossroads.com under the what's happening tab to listen to all the sermons in this series.

Looking forward to next weekend. I know I have a busy week ahead. Tons to do at school, lots of practice time to log in before the big gig, and other assorted stuff. So don't be surprised if my blogging slacks off a bit this week.

One Enchanted Evening

This is a long, sappy and mushy blog in case any of you would rather skip it. Lots of details for the girls who love a good romance. Sorry boys, the details you would be interested in are not any of your business :)

Saturday night we celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary. Technically it's not until Friday, the 22nd. However, we have a busy weekend coming up with a local hot air balloon festival and decided to celebrate early.

The evening began early. It was about 3:30 when I slipped into the tub to shave my legs. Must be silky smooth when wearing sexy dress. It's very important. I took a twitter pole about which dress to wear. I own 4. 2 were too casual, so the vote was between the sexy blue one or the classy black one. The blue won by an overwhelming number of votes. However when I tried on both to show Shawn, he picked the black one by a landslide. It is simply much dressier. And Shawn's vote always wins. Cause that's the guy I want to impress!

It made my day that when I had on the beautiful dress, nice jewelry, and stiletto heels my husband looked at me like I was the absolutely the most beautiful, most sexy woman on the whole entire planet. I don't see many men who look at their wives the way my husband looks at me. Ever seen a kid in a candy store? Yeah, like that. Even after 16 years, he is not bored with me. After the damages done to my body by bearing 4 children, he still finds me irresistibly attractive. That's pretty cool.

We headed down to Dallas. A friend gifted us with tickets to the symphony. We did not have any plans about where to eat, but chose an Italian restaurant, Maggianos, based on a friend's recommendation. The atmosphere was romantic, the service was spectacular, and the food was unbelievable. This place made Olive Garden look like McDonald's. We did the chef's special. We were able to select 2 appetizers, 2 salads, 2 pastas, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts for 26 dollars per person. This gave us the opportunity to sample a wide variety of items from the menu. It was so amazingly yummy. Shawn made lots of happy noises while he was eating.

We finally made it to the symphony. We parked nearby, paid $15. When we got to the front door we found that valet parking is only $10. Some humor in that. I paid extra to get to walk 3 blocks in my sexy high heeled shoes. Awesome!

I was so excited about this event. I have dreamed of attending the symphony since I was a very little girl and first saw one on PBS. Entering the building, my toes tingled with excitement. Or maybe just from the long walk, hard to tell. We located our seats. We were on the third tier, directly in front of the stage. Amazing location. As the orchestra tuned, I was overwhelmed with emotion. It was so cool that we were blessed with the opportunity to fulfill one of my dreams. To be absolutely honest, I cried through the first two songs. As in bawled like a baby! And I'm not much of a crier. I was just so amazed by the beauty of the music and the beauty of the symphony hall, and the beauty that God would bless me with tickets to it.

We heard the 5 Browns. This is a group of 2 brothers and 3 sisters that grew up in Utah playing classical piano. As they grew up they all attended Julliard and began touring together playing classical music. It was so phenomenal to hear the five of them on their five Steinways making beautiful music. I especially enjoyed hearing pieces that I played as a kid. The 3 sisters sat together and played Clair De Lune. That's worth a search on You-tube. They looked like one human with 6 arms as their hands perfectly intertwined and passed in and out and over and under each other to perform the piece.

And how about Shawn? He says he liked it. He certainly did not cry nor seem to be mesmerized like I was, but he did stay awake for the entire show. Big points for him.

For me elegant dinner + incredible music = superb anniversary date
